WILDRING FAQ: custom topographic rings, answered

A topographic ring is a ring whose surface is shaped from the real elevation data of a place: the contours of a mountain, a coastline, a valley or a city. A WILDRING is made by taking satellite terrain data for the location you choose, turning it into a 3D model, then casting that model in sterling silver or gold. The result is a small, wearable map of somewhere that matters to you. See examples in our gallery or design your own.

Most “map rings” are standard rings with contour lines engraved or laser-etched onto a flat surface, often onto plated base metal. A WILDRING is different in four ways:

1. It’s real terrain, in 3D. The face of the ring is built from actual satellite elevation data for your exact location, so the mountain rises and the valley dips. It’s sculpted relief you can feel, not a drawing of lines.
2. It’s solid precious metal. Every ring is cast in solid 925 sterling silver or solid 9K, 14K or 18K gold, never plated, and independently hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office.
3. It’s made to order from your own design. You choose the place, zoom, height, detail, style and metal yourself in the design tool, and see the live 3D result before you buy. No two WILDRINGs are the same.
4. It’s made in the UK from metal of verified recycled origin. 3D printed, cast, hallmarked and hand polished in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, in chain-of-custody certified silver and gold.

The most popular choices are places with a story: the summit where someone proposed, a hometown, the beach a couple were married on, a favourite climbing crag or surf break, the hills a family has walked for generations, or a place someone is moving away from. Because you choose the location, it’s a gift that’s personal without needing to know the recipient’s taste in jewellery. Sizing is the usual worry with ring gifts, and we solve it two ways: choose “size later” at checkout and send the size when you know it, and resizing is free within 30 days of delivery. For Christmas 2026, order a WILDRING by midnight on Sunday 15 November 2026 for guaranteed UK Christmas delivery. Every ring is made to order in 3–5 weeks, so this date allows for making plus delivery. If you’ve chosen “size later”, we need your size by the same date. Orders after the cut-off are welcome and we’ll do our best; if the ring can’t arrive in time we send a link to its 3D model to share on Christmas morning, with the ring following in January. Yes. A WILDRING takes 3–5 weeks to make and can’t be rushed through casting and hallmarking, but the gift can still happen on the day: soon after you order, we send a link to a 3D model of the finished design to share, print or show on your phone. The ring follows once it’s made, plus up to 2 weeks for international delivery. Design it now and choose “size later” if you don’t know their size.

Every WILDRING arrives in a plain black branded ring box, ready to give. We don’t offer additional gift wrapping.

Yes. Enter their address as the delivery address at checkout and your own as the billing address. If you’d like us to know it’s a gift, email hello@wildring.studio with your order number.

Yes, and many customers have chosen one for exactly that. The landscape makes the ring personal to you both: where you met, where you proposed or a place you love together. For an engagement ring worn every day, gold is the most durable choice: 9K is the most scratch-resistant, 14K balances durability with a richer colour, and 18K gives the deepest colour. There are no stones to catch or lose, which many people prefer for an active life. If you’re unsure of their size, choose “size later” or order an average size; resizing is free within 30 days of delivery. Yes. A WILDRING works as a wedding band for anyone, and the textured, stone-free design is a popular choice for men’s wedding rings and for people who want an alternative to a plain band. Choose a wider band width for a classic band proportion, or a narrower width to sit alongside an existing engagement ring. Every metal we offer is suitable for daily wear; 9K gold is the hardest-wearing, and sterling silver is the softest and most affordable. Silver bands start at £150 and gold at £600. Yes. Design one ring, then share the design with us using the share button and we’ll help you set up a second ring of the same landscape in a different size, band width or metal, so a couple can wear the same place in two rings that each fit perfectly. A WILDRING in 925 sterling silver costs £150 to £400, depending on the style: Subtle Disc £150, Subtle Signet £250, Classic Disc £200, Classic Signet £300, Statement Disc and Statement Signet £400. Solid gold rings start at £600 (Subtle Disc, 9K) and rise with face size and karat, with the Statement Signet from £2,200. The exact price depends on your metal, style and size, and you see it update live as you design at wildring.studio. Every price includes hallmarking, hand finishing and, for international orders, all duties and taxes. Subscribers to our mailing list get free shipping on every order.

WILDRING prices are updated regularly to reflect the market price of silver and gold, which moves daily, as well as our casting and finishing costs. Once you’ve placed your order, the price you paid is fixed.

WILDRING accepts Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club and Discover credit and debit cards, PayPal and Apple Pay. Payments are processed securely through Shopify.

WILDRING doesn’t discount its rings, because every one is made to order. We do run a monthly giveaway: design a ring, share the story of the place you chose and why it matters, and each month we pick our favourite entry and cast it for free. Each WILDRING is made to order and takes 3–5 weeks from order confirmation to despatch. That covers 3D printing, casting, hallmarking and hand polishing, with quality checks in between. Delivery is on top of this, and international delivery can take up to 2 weeks. If you chose “size later”, the 3–5 weeks starts when we receive your size. Allow 3–5 weeks for WILDRING to make your ring, plus delivery, which can take up to 2 weeks for international orders. If you’re working to a date, such as a birthday, anniversary or proposal, email hello@wildring.studio when you order. We’ll note it on your order and let you know whether it’s achievable. If time is too tight, we’ll send you a link to the 3D model of your ring to share on the day, and the ring itself follows shortly after.

Yes, up until midnight on the Sunday before your ring goes to casting. Rings are sent to casting in batches every Monday. Until then you can change your ring size, terrain height, detail level or other design details. Email hello@wildring.studio with your order number and the change you’d like. Once a ring has been cast, the design is fixed: size changes are then handled as a resize, and other design changes need a remake.

Yes, for a full refund, as long as you let us know by midnight on the Sunday before your ring goes to casting. Rings are cast every Monday. After that, work on your ring has started and it’s made only for you, so we can’t cancel. Email hello@wildring.studio with your order number to cancel.

Usually, yes, if your WILDRING hasn’t been despatched yet. Email hello@wildring.studio with your order number and the new address as soon as possible. Once a parcel is on its way, we can’t redirect it.

Check your junk or spam folder first, because automated emails sometimes land there. If it’s not there, email hello@wildring.studio with the name and email address you ordered with and we’ll resend it.

WILDRING delivers to the UK and to more than 180 countries and territories worldwide, including the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, every EU country, Switzerland, Norway, Japan, Singapore, the UAE and South Africa. International delivery takes up to 2 weeks. The full list of countries is on our delivery page. If your country isn’t listed, email hello@wildring.studio: we’re adding new destinations over time.

Delivery cost is shown at checkout before you pay, and mailing list subscribers get free shipping on every order. For international orders, the price you see includes all duties and taxes, so there’s nothing more to pay on arrival.

No. For every international order, including the USA, EU, Canada and Australia, duties and taxes are paid upfront and already included in the price you see at checkout. There’s nothing extra to pay when your ring arrives and no customs bill at the door.

Every order is sent tracked, and we email you a tracking link once it’s on its way. UK orders go by Royal Mail Tracked & Signed, so a signature is needed on delivery. International orders usually travel with FedEx; occasionally we use Royal Mail International Tracked instead.

The most reliable way is to have your finger measured at a local jeweller, which is usually free. You can also measure at home with our sizing guide. If the size turns out to be wrong, resizing is free within 30 days of delivery.

You have three options:

1. Choose “size later” at checkout, and send us the size, using the link in your order confirmation, once you know it. We make the ring when we have it, so allow 3–5 weeks from then.
2. Measure a ring they already wear on the same finger. The inside diameter in millimetres converts directly on our sizing guide.
3. Ask a jeweller to measure their finger, if that won’t spoil the surprise.

Whichever you choose, resizing is free within 30 days of delivery.

Borrow a ring they wear on the intended finger and measure its inside diameter against our sizing guide, or press it into soft soap or clay and measure the impression. Ask a friend or family member who might know. If you’re planning a proposal, you can also choose “size later”, and resizing is free within 30 days of delivery, so a slightly-wrong size on the day is easy to fix.

If you choose “size later” at checkout, you can send us your size after you’ve ordered, using the link in your order confirmation. We can’t cast your ring until we have it, so production time starts when we receive your size, not from the order date. Send it as soon as you can to keep things moving.

No. Every WILDRING is made to order from your own design, so once your ring has gone to casting we can’t accept returns or give refunds for a change of mind. Until midnight on the Sunday before casting, you can cancel for a full refund or change your design. That doesn’t leave you stuck after casting:

• If there’s a fault with your ring, we’ll put it right.
• If the size isn’t right, resizing is free within 30 days of delivery.

Yes. Resizing is free within 30 days of delivery. In the UK:

1. Confirm the size you need, ideally by having your finger measured at a local jeweller.
2. Email hello@wildring.studio with your order number and the new size.
3. We’ll send you a pre-paid Royal Mail QR code. Use it at a Post Office within 7 days, and return the ring in its original packaging if possible.
4. We’ll resize your ring and send it back within 3 weeks.

Outside the UK, resizing is still free, but return postage isn’t covered. If postage would cost more than a local resize, have the ring resized by a local jeweller instead, send the receipt and your order number to hello@wildring.studio and WILDRING will contribute up to £30 towards the cost.

Yes. Resizing is free within 30 days of delivery wherever you are, but WILDRING doesn’t cover return postage from outside the UK, so you have two options:

1. Send it to us at your own postage cost. Email hello@wildring.studio with your order number and new size first, and we’ll resize it free of charge.
2. Resize it locally if postage would cost more than a local resize. Take it to a specialist jewellery repair workshop with good reviews, then send the receipt and your order number to hello@wildring.studio. WILDRING will contribute up to £30, refunded to your original payment method.

Yes. A WILDRING can be resized up or down by about 4 sizes before the design starts to warp. For a bigger change we’d usually recommend recasting. Email hello@wildring.studio and we’ll talk through the options.

Yes. Every WILDRING is guaranteed against faults in materials and workmanship. If your ring arrives damaged, develops a casting fault, or isn’t what you designed, we’ll repair or remake it at no cost. On top of that, resizing is free within 30 days of delivery, and the Birmingham Assay Office hallmark independently guarantees the metal. Normal wear, accidental damage and changes of mind aren’t covered, but email hello@wildring.studio anyway: we can usually help with a repair or a remake at a fair price.

No. Band width and shoulder style are set when a WILDRING is cast, so they can’t be altered afterwards, but WILDRING can remake your ring with the new design for a remake fee. Email hello@wildring.studio and we’ll confirm the details before you send anything back.

WILDRING rings come in two forms and three face sizes. Disc rings have a round face; Signet rings have a classic signet shape. Each is available as Subtle (the smallest face, for a quieter ring), Classic (a balanced signet or disc proportion) and Statement (the largest face, for the most terrain detail). Every style is made in sterling silver or solid gold, in any UK size from A to Z+8 (US 0¼ to 16, EU 37 to 79), and you set the size yourself in the design tool. Band width is chosen as part of the style. Compare the styles or design yours.

Every WILDRING can be made in 925 sterling silver or solid 9K, 14K or 18K gold. Platinum, palladium, white gold and red gold are available on request: email hello@wildring.studio with your design and the metal you’d like.

Yes. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% other metals (mostly copper) for strength, which is why it’s the standard for fine silver jewellery. Pure silver is too soft for a ring worn every day. Every WILDRING silver ring is hallmarked 925 by the Birmingham Assay Office, which independently confirms the silver content.

The number tells you how much pure gold is in the alloy: 9K is 37.5% gold, 14K is 58.5% and 18K is 75%. Higher karat gold has a richer, warmer colour and is more valuable. Lower karat gold is harder and more scratch-resistant, which is why 9K is the most practical choice for a ring worn every day, with 14K a good balance of colour and durability. 18K is the softest of the three and the choice if colour and purity matter most. All three are solid gold throughout, not plated.

For hard wear, gold outlasts silver: 9K gold is the most scratch-resistant metal we offer, followed by 14K, then 18K. Sterling silver is softer than any of our gold alloys, so it will pick up fine surface marks sooner, but it’s easily polished back, and its lower price makes it the most popular choice for a first WILDRING. Whichever you choose, the terrain is cast solid, so the design is part of the ring and can’t wear off.

Yes. Every WILDRING is independently tested and hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office before it’s polished. The hallmark is struck inside the band and shows the metal fineness (for example 925 for sterling silver or 750 for 18K gold), the Assay Office mark and our sponsor’s mark. The hallmark is your guarantee of the metal, and it’s a legal requirement for precious metal jewellery sold in the UK.

In the UK. We design in Bristol, and every ring is 3D printed, cast, hallmarked and hand polished in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, where fine jewellery has been made for over 200 years.

Your ring is 3D printed from your chosen landscape, cast in your chosen metal, tested and hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office, then polished by hand. Quality checks happen at each stage. The whole process takes 3–5 weeks.

Yes. WILDRING offers laser engraving and hand engraving inside the band, for a date, coordinates, initials or a short message. Email hello@wildring.studio with your order number and the text you’d like, and we’ll talk you through the options and cost.

Not at the moment. Stone setting and plating aren’t part of our making process. If you’d like gold, choose solid 9K, 14K or 18K, which is gold all the way through.

A silver WILDRING will slowly darken over time; a 14K or 18K gold one won’t. Sterling silver tarnishes as it reacts with air and skin, especially in the recesses of a textured design. This is normal, easy to reverse, and many people like the depth it gives the terrain. 9K gold can dull very slightly over years because of its higher copper content, and a polishing cloth restores it. To keep silver bright, wear it often (skin contact slows tarnish), store it in its box when you’re not wearing it, and polish it with a silver cloth when needed.

Warm water, a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush will clear dirt from the contours. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. For tarnish on silver, use a silver polishing cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive pastes and ultrasonic cleaners.

Yes, a WILDRING is made to be worn daily. Water won’t harm silver or gold, though chlorine, salt water and hot tubs will speed up tarnish on silver, so rinse and dry your ring afterwards. Take it off for heavy manual work, the gym and anything involving bleach or strong chemicals.

Yes. Every WILDRING metal is nickel-free: our sterling silver is a standard 925 alloy of silver and copper, and our 9K, 14K and 18K gold contain no nickel. Most people with sensitive skin wear them without any problem. If you have a known metal allergy, email hello@wildring.studio before ordering and we’ll confirm the exact alloy composition for your chosen metal so you can check it against your sensitivity.

Go to wildring.studio and choose “Design Yours”. Search for a real place anywhere on Earth, move and zoom the map until the landscape you want fills the ring face, then set your terrain height, detail level, metal, band width and size. The price updates live as you design. When you’re happy, add it to your bag and check out.

• Fill the ring face. Zoom in so your chosen place fills the ring rather than showing a wide area. This gives the clearest detail. Zooming in too far can lose definition in flatter areas, so aim for balance.
• Give low-lying places more height. Fine detail softens slightly through hand polishing and everyday wear, so very low-relief places such as small islands benefit from extra height. We don’t recommend going below 15% terrain height.
• Soften very zoomed-out places. For wide views, set the detail level to low or medium. For most other places, high detail looks best.
• Keep famous peaks true to life. For well-known mountains, a terrain height between true scale and 2× exaggeration gives the most accurate result. Exaggerating further can distort the mountain’s shape.

Yes. Once you’ve placed your order, we send you a link to a 3D model of your ring that you can view from every angle and share with someone else. If anything doesn’t look right, or you’d like a change, email hello@wildring.studio before midnight on the Sunday before your ring goes to casting. Rings are sent to casting in batches every Monday.

The design tool is a 3D application and can occasionally struggle in Safari. Try these in order:

1. Open wildring.studio in Chrome.
2. Try a private browsing tab, which clears the cached version of the page.
3. Use a good Wi-Fi connection rather than mobile data.

Yes. The design tool uses global satellite elevation data, so any real landscape on Earth will work: a mountain in Morocco, a coast in Japan, a valley in the Alps.

Not yet. The tool uses land elevation data, so underwater topography such as the seabed isn’t available. We’re working on better detail for coastal and river areas.

Not yet. The tool covers Earth only for now. We’d love to add the Moon, and possibly Mars, in the future. Join the WILDRING mailing list at wildring.studio to hear when new worlds are added.

Yes. Every WILDRING is cast in responsibly sourced silver or gold of verified recycled origin. None of the metal we use comes from mining, which is the most environmentally damaging part of the jewellery supply chain. All of our silver and gold is refined in the UK, chain-of-custody certified and conflict-free, and every ring is made in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office.

Yes, all of it. The 925 sterling silver and 9K, 14K and 18K gold we cast with is metal of verified recycled origin, with a certified chain of custody from UK refiner to our workshop. Recycled precious metal is chemically identical to newly mined metal: it’s refined back to the same purity, hallmarked to the same standard and performs exactly the same on your finger.

Mining is the most damaging stage of jewellery production, responsible for habitat destruction, water contamination and most of the carbon footprint of a finished piece. Recycling precious metal avoids all of that. By using only gold and silver of verified recycled origin, WILDRING helps protect wild places, prevents new water contamination and supports ethical, lower-impact jewellery production. For a ring that’s a map of a landscape you love, it felt like the only choice.

Yes. Because our gold is of verified recycled origin and chain-of-custody certified by a UK refiner, no newly mined gold enters our supply chain, so none of it can come from conflict zones or unregulated mines. The same applies to our silver.

Nothing is thrown away. Every scrap, filing, casting sprue and polishing residue is collected and sent back to the refiner to be reclaimed and recycled into new metal. The loop is closed: the metal in your ring has had a previous life, and any offcuts from making it will go on to have another.
